As of January 1, 2000, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requires all televisions over 13 inches in diameter to include the V–chip. The V–chip is a small computer chip that allows parents to block out certain television programs based on an embedded ratings signal.

The V–chip does not filter dialog or scenes and it does not work with DVDs or VHS videos.

For older television sets without the V–chip, contact the FCC for information on purchasing a V–chip device.

For questions about how to use the V–chip, contact your television manufacturer.

To filter offensive dialog and scenes, see ClearPlay, the best movie filtering product we could find.
