TVGuardian model 201 uses the closed–captioning signal from your television, DVD player and VCR to filter out over 150 words and phrases from offensive dialog such as curse words and sexually charged language.
The TVGuardian 201 model has more features, Digital Optical Audio and an S–video connection than the 301 model.
TVGuardian has four different audience/filter settings: Kids (strict), Family (moderate), Parent (tolerant) and Other (religious off). TVGuardian will filter out any reference to a Deity, so for religious programming, turn the religious setting off.
TVGuardian mutes offensive words and phrases and displays a cleaned–up version of closed–captioned text so viewers won’t miss out on the storyline.
DVD movies released by Universal Studios do not include closed–captioned text, so TVGuardian will not work with these DVDs; however, VHS videos released by Universal does include closed–captioning. Look for the closed–captioning symbol (CC) on the movie packaging.
The TVGuardian doesn’t come with a remote control. To navigate the simple menu options, use the menu buttons on the front panel and the options will display on your television screen. If you use progressive scan, the closed–captioned text will not display; however, the dialog will still be muted.
The TVGuardian comes with a User’s Manual that includes several diagrams to make setup easy. A one–time fee of $19.95 is required to activate the TVGuardian filtering technology.
Enter the registration key on the TVGuardian website to retrieve your activation code. Under the menu options on the TVGuardian device, enter the activation code to activate the filtering technology or you can activate from the TVGuardian website. There is a $5.00 charge to activate by phone.
You can hook up the TVGuardian with an S-video or component video connection.
TVGuardian filters out offensive language with 95% accuracy. Due to some instances of technical problems or human error with the closed–captioning system, some words or phrases may slip through, but this is not a common occurrence.
