The next time you watch a movie with your kids–watch it stress free. Don’t worry if the next scene or string of dialog will have you scrambling to cover your child’s eyes and ears. ClearPlay, our “TopTenREVIEWS Gold Award” winner, filters out offensive dialog such as curse words and sexual references as well as scenes with sexual situations and extreme violence.
ClearPlay offers a whopping 2000+ movie filters from the 1970’s to the Present and adds new filters as movies are released on DVD. ClearPlay continually updates its library so you can always find the movies you are looking for. With ClearPlay you can use the DVDs you’ve owned for years, buy new ones or rent them from your local video store.
Along with the purchase of a ClearPlay DVD Player, you will receive a free one–year subscription to download filters. Even before you sign up for the free subscription, you can download free filters for 250 movies.
ClearPlay is different from businesses like CleanFlicks and Family Flix (found to be illegal by a 2006 District of Colorado court ruling) because ClearPlay uses legal technology that doesn’t physically alter the DVD or make copies. The technology works in tandem with the coding on DVDs. You can download as many filters as you want, but unless you play the actual DVD, you can’t watch the movie and the filtering doesn’t work.
How ClearPlay works:
ClearPlay filters out offensive dialog and objectionable scenes. Filtered dialog consists of curse words and sexually charged language. Unlike all other filtering products, ClearPlay also filters scenes containing nudity, sexual situations and excessive violence. Scenes are completely filtered out as long as the storyline is not disrupted. Alternatively, scenes are filtered/edited to play seamlessly as if the filtered version is what was intended by the movie producers.
The ClearPlay website has a list of over 2000 movie filters. The USB FilterStik can store thousands of movie filters and the ClearPlay DVD player can store 300 movie filters at a time. You can upload extra movie filters and burn them to a CD or store them on a separate USB Flash device.
To find movies on the ClearPlay website, search alphabetically or by keyword. Click on the box next to the movie(s) you want to download and click the “Download” button—it’s that simple.
ClearPlay has parental settings from 1–8. The number one setting is equivalent to a G–rated film and the number seven setting is equivalent to a NC17 rating. The number eight setting will play all DVDs regardless of their content. Downloaded filters contain edits for every parental setting, so you don’t have to download a separate filter for each setting.
Use Browse on your remote control to scroll through movie titles that are on your FilterStik or downloaded onto your ClearPlay DVD player. As you scroll through each movie title, a list of the type of content (based on your filter settings) that will be filtered out is displayed for each movie.
The DVD player also includes a wide range of common features such as Frame–by–Frame advance, Title/Track Selection, Chapter Selection, Dynamic Range Compression and Surround–sound Output, and more.
Access all the ClearPlay features with the DVD player remote control. Your TV screen displays all your options, just like a regular DVD player. Establish a password, set your preferred rating limits, and scroll through the list of downloaded movie filters. For easier searching, enter the first three letters of the movie title to advance through the alphabetical list.
The ClearPlay DVD Player comes with a User’s Manual, Quick Start Guide, FilterStik and cable connections, which is all you need to get started. The instructions from the Quick Start Guide make it simple to download your fist set of movie filters and transfer them to your DVD player. The ClearPlay DVD Player comes with a component video cable for easy connection to your television. The User’s Manual also provides detailed instructions for the DVD player features. To download filters, you need a USB port on your computer and a high–speed internet connection. If you have a dial up internet connection, check out the ClearPlay supported MaxPlay DVD player.
The filters include every ClearPlay parental setting, so the filter accuracy is close to 100%, but keep in mind that your parental settings may not be compatible with some movies you want to watch. For example, if a pivotal scene contains violence not allowed by your parental settings, the scene may remain in the movie because it is important to the integrity of the storyline.
